The Progressive People’s Party (PPP) is considering the option of going into the 2016 general elections with another political party as a coalition force to wrest power from President John Mahama and his governing National Democratic Congress (NDC).
The 2012 presidential candidate of the party, Dr Paa Kwesi Nduom, who dropped the hint, said “we have been talking to all manner of people, individuals and political parties on the idea of forming a coalition.”
That was when he held his own version of the meet the press session at which he addressed a wide range of issues.
With discussions still ongoing, Dr Nduom said “I have no doubt that one way or the other, we will have a coalition either with political parties or with individuals.”
He however failed to tell which political party (s) and individuals they have been holding these unity talks with, be it the main opposition New Patriotic Party (NPP), his former party the Convention People’s Party (CPP), the People’s National Convention (PNC) or the National Democratic Party (NDP) of Nana Konadu Agyeman Rawlings.
It is for this reason he could not tell whether he would be contesting the 2016 general elections as the presidential candidate of the PPP since in his own words, “it can happen as part of coalition arrangement that someone else is there and I am supporting that person in some form or the other.”
Main Alternative
But all things being equal, the celebrated businessman and President of Groupe Nduom (GN) noted, “2016 should establish the Progressive People’s Party as the main alternative to the NDC and the NPP.”

Groupe Nduom is a family business group of Ghanaian origin with businesses and social enterprises in the Tourism, Investment Advisory and Management, Financial Services, Technology, Media, Management Consulting, Cross Border Trade and Sports industries.
Dr Nduom also believes “the PPP must be in Parliament come 2017 and the PPP must be part of the next administration in one or two ways; either a PPP person is President or the PPP is a coalition in government.”
For him, “what is important is that we come up with an arrangement, an administration from January 2017 that has some of the best people available in Ghana included and that will work to the best interest of the country.”
Of all the persons who have declared their intentions to contest the presidential elections in the 2016 general elections, including incumbent President Mahama and presidential candidate of the opposition New Patriotic Party (NPP), which is considered the alternative government, and the People’s National Convention’s (PNC’s) Dr Edward Nasigri Mahama, the PPP man said “there is absolutely no doubt in my mind that this person standing here—Papa Kwesi Nduom—has the best package and the right experience, qualification, the best competence and the best commitment to incorruptible leadership that there is amongst all of them.”
“I believe I’ve got something to offer based on my experience in private sector and the public sector; and also my personal experience as a family man,” he added.
