Asante Kotoko have explained that the club could not register Ahmed Toure because the controversial striker whereabouts was unknown.

Toure was not in contact with the club since leaving for international assignment with Burkina Faso.

Management decided to exclude him from the total number of players registered for the 2016 campaign.

Kotoko duly registered 29 players – 14 being new players with the same number of players retained from last season and one, Felix Annan back from a loan stint.

“Along the line he was away for national assignment, which was understandable.

“We didn’t hear from him again even after we formally wrote to him demanding answers to his unexplained absence,” Kotoko’s Accra Representative Edmund Ackah told www.asantekotokosc.com

“The management member continued that, at a time when the pre-season had started with recruitment also over and the forward’s whereabouts unknown, it would have been improper to register him.

“Toure neither reported for training nor did he respond to our letter. With the technical team proceeding with their work, we concluded that adding him to our registration list wasn’t going to serve the club’s interest.”

Toure made a third comeback to Kotoko at the start of the 2014/15 season after signing a three-year contract.
