2 Get 50yrs For Robbery

Two persons who were standing trial for robbery were yesterday handed a total of 50 years’ imprisonment with hard labour.

They are Iddrisu Abdul aka Baba and Suleiman Dushie aka Sule.

The two convicts were part of an eight-man gang that conspired and robbed one Ann Brewin, a businesswoman of her valuables on January 18, this year.

The convicts admitted the offence and were sentenced on their own plea while two others-Lord Forfoe and Anane Kwesi denied the accusations.

The police have intensified the search for the five suspects.

Sentencing the accused persons, Aboagye Tandoh said the court took into consideration the number of days the convicts had been in custody.

He said the court also considered the fact that accused persons readily admitted their guilt.

Mr. Tandoh however stated that the nefarious activities of armed robbers must be discouraged especially when robbery attacks appear to be on the decline.

He said the convicts were sentenced to serve as deterrent to others in society.

The judge accordingly jailed the two 25 years each in hard labour while Lord and Anane were remanded until February 5, 2016.

Prosecuting, Chief Supt. Duuti Tuaruka said the complainant employed Forfoe as her driver and that on January 13, the complainant’s husband kept $10,000 in the car which was driven by the convict.

He said based on this, Forfoe conspired with the others to rob the complainant to prevent them (Ann and husband) from going out.

According to the prosecution, another suspect, who is on the run, contacted the accused persons, who were masked and attacked the complainant at about 1:320 am.

Chief Supt. Tuaruka said the accused person succeeded in robbing Ann of $10,000, GH¢8,000, one platinum with two carat diamond engagement ring worth $30,000, one platinum with diamond eternity engagement ring valued at $20,000, one platinum wedding ring worth $2,000, iphone 6 valued at $900.

The other items included two security mobile phones, one security mobile camera valued at GH¢400, a Hyundai bus with registration GY 387-13 valued at GH¢45,000.

The accused persons were arrested when the car got involved in an accident at the Tetteh Quarshie Interchange in Accra.
