Kwame Gyan has tendered in his resignation from Airtel Ghana. Kwame who is also a blogger and a very active personality on social media, especially Facebook, recently celebrated his 4th anniversary with the telecommunications giant according to his LinkedIn profile but it seems there won’t be a 5th anniversary.

Kwame Gyan’s wall on Facebook has seen some of the most lively debates over the past few years and it earned him the Sikaman Awards Facebooker of the Year award instituted by the writer of Sebitically Speaking, Nana Awere Damoah.

It has become common to find his posts on news websites and was involved in a suspension saga with Airtel in 2014 when some NDC newspapers suggested he was calling for the overthrow of the Mahama Administration. The story was splashed on the front pages of some newspapers and discussed on almost every radio station for days, including the BBC.

That single incident catapulted Kwame Gyan’s status on social media and it has become a case study in some circles when the issue of employees use of social media comes up. This however, has not stopped the former journalist from speaking his mind on issues of politics, entertainment and sports among others through his blog, www.kwamegyan.wordpress.com.

Kwame Gyan has over the past 4 years worked with Airtel Ghana. According to his LinkedIn profile. Over the period he served under two main roles, as Corporate Relations Manager and as Brand Assets Manager.

Before joining Airtel he had also worked for mining firm Newmont as a Senior communication officer also for 4 years. On the journalism side he has been with Joy FM, Citi fm and Radio Univers where he started from.

It remains unclear what Kwame gGyan will be doing next. Workers in the telco industry often swap roles from company to company so it is possible he may head to any of the other telcos.

Sources, however, indicate that he is most likely moving back to journalism. One company that has been doing a lot of high-profile poaching is the EIB group which has GH One TV and several stations including Starr FM and live fm under it.

It is possible that will be Kwame Gyan’s destination if he decides to do journalism again. He however still maintains a close relationship with Citi FM and Joy FM and that possibility exists.
