Juventus midfielder Kwadwo Asamoah says he was stunned by Ghana’s performance at the 2015 Africa Cup of Nations in Equatorial Guinea despite the Black Stars losing the final to Cote D’Ivoire on penalties.

Asamoah watched the tournament on television as he was unfit to participate due to injury woes.

“I was happy for the guys and I was so surprised with what they did because people never thought they could reach that far,” Asamoah told Metro TV.

“But they made it and made Ghanaians happy. I was following everything that they were doing every day. I watched all the games and I was so happy.

“I wish you saw how I was jubilating. I was so serious watching the games because it felt like I was there. It was like I was on the bench. Although they couldn’t bring the cup home I was happy because I never thought they could get to the final.

“I was always communicating with some of the players and even some of the coaches.”

Ghana suffered an opening day defeat to Senegal before bouncing back with 1-0 and 2-1 wins over Algeria and South Africa respectively in their last two group games.

Avram Grant’s men then handed Guinea a 3-0 thrashing in the quarter-finals before outclassing hosts Equatorial Guinea by same score in a temperamental game in the semi final.

Following a scoreless stalemate after extra time in the final, Cote d’Ivoire emerged triumphant on penalties.
