Head porters, also known as ‘Kayayie,’ have taken the lead in the purchase of tickets for an upcoming fundraising event of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) in Kumasi.

The event, a brainchild of the Ashanti Regional NPP Fund Raising Committee, is scheduled to take place at the Baba Yara Stadium in Kumasi this Saturday.

A ticket for the historic event, which is aimed at soliciting funds to support the NPP’s upcoming presidential and parliamentary elections, goes for between GH¢20 and GH¢100.

Interestingly, the head porters in the city, who are not that financially-sound, are scrambling for the NPP tickets in order to take part in the history fund-raising to assist the party to win the polls.

DAILY GUIDE’s checks at the NPP regional office in Kumasi indicated that a total of 1,875 head porters, who have all attained the voting age of 18, have so far bought tickets for the event.

The female porters were led by Adiza Zongo Pioneer, a top NPP member in Kumasi, who is also a former head porter, to the party’s office to purchase almost 2,000 tickets which were sold at GH¢20 each.

Adiza said the head porters said they were being negatively affected by the harsh economic conditions in the country which is due to the bad governance of the NDC administration.

She said the head porters have strong conviction that Nana Akufo-Addo and Dr. Bawumia would save Ghanaians from their current predicament so they want to assist the NPP to win the elections, this year.

The paper learnt that the NPP is coming out with the programme to enable every party member and well-meaning Ghanaian to contribute financially towards the party’s cause.

Nana Akufo-Addo and his running mate, Dr. Mahamadu Bawumia, Freddie Blay, acting NPP National Chairman, Bernard Antwi Boasiako aka ‘Wontumi’ and other party gurus would be present.

The programme, which starts at 8am and ends in the evening, would see top musicians in the country perform to entertain the huge crowd expected to fill the stadium.

The attendants would have the privilege of either joining the platinum, golden, diamond, silver or bronze clubs that would be formed by the party during the event to support the NPP’s campaign.
