There was drama at the premises of the Gospel Light International Church in Accra yesterday when a young mother abandoned her four-month old baby at the church.
The mother of the boy, who was reportedly spotted at the church around 8am, left the baby in the care of a Sunday school teacher at the church under the pretext of going to urinate but failed to return.
According to DAILY GUIDE’s sources, the woman who was shabbily dressed had been coming to the church to beg for alms.
They stated that the baby looked malnourished and had rashes which looked like mosquito bites all over his body.
The sources said the case was reported to the Tesano Police but the police told the complainants to send the baby back till today, explaining that DOVVSU, a department of the service, does not work on Sundays.
According to the sources, the baby was in the custody of one of the Sunday school teachers of the church.
The Sunday school teacher is expected to hand the baby over to DOVVSU officials today.
Meanwhile, as at press time yesterday, the whereabouts of the mother was not yet known.
