A man who used a plastic chair to hit his wife several times till it broke and bit off her nose without any provocation has been arraigned before an Accra Circuit Court.

The suspect Isaac Forson was put in a court presided over by Mrs. Abena Adjin-Doku and charged with causing harm to the lady called Yvonne who he has cohabited with for a number of years.

He pleaded not guilty to the offence and has been remanded in police custody while the case was adjourned to 14 January 2016.

The facts of the case as presented by the prosecuting officer ASP Grace Bandoh are that the suspect lives with the complainant at East Legon, a suburb of Accra.

She stated that on December 14, 2015 at 3.30 pm, the complainant went to visit her friend called Stella Avornyo who is also a witness in the case.

She said while at her friend’s place, Isaac also went there and met his wife and subjected her to severe beatings without any provocation and used a plastic chair to hit her several times till it broke into pieces.

The prosecutor continued that the suspect, not satisfied, bit off the nose of his wife resulting in profuse bleeding. The matter was reported to Madina Police but was later transferred to Domestic Violence Victim Support Unit at Madina where Yvonne was given a form to go for medical examination and treatment.

ASP Bandoh disclosed that the suspect was consequently arrested but he denied the offence saying he only pushed his wife and she fell but did not beat her nor bite off her nose.

The police officer said the suspect was arraigned after police concluded investigations.
