Ghana goalkeeper Fatau Dauda
Ghana goalkeeper Fatau Dauda was prevented from assaulting a journalist during a post-match interview as the GHALCA G6 tournament on Saturday when the reporter posed who has been described as a ‘provocative question’.
The AshGold shot-stopper was sparked into anger when Empire FM’s journalist Kojo Darko Sakyi-Gyinae categorically stated that the Black Stars was ‘bad’ and ‘rusty’ during the Miners 1-1 draw with Asante Kotoko.
The question broke the resilience of the goalkeeper who hit back as the journalist as a ‘villager’ and opted to vacate his seat at the high table to move to the place where Sakyi-Gyinae was seated but security officials, journalists and coach Bashiru Hayford prevented him.
Dauda, not known for a fiery temper, swooped to pounce on his questioner who had asked: “You are rusty, you were bad today, do you agree or disagree?” after the goalkeeper conceded one goal in the 1-1 drawn game.
“Are you a spectator or a Journalist? I don’t expect you to ask me such question. Villager!,” Dauda said when hitting back at the question posed by the reporter.
AshGold coach Hayford opted to answer the question defending the goalkeeper implying that he could not be blamed for Kotoko’s game in the match.
“I’m training him, I know his standard,” Bashir Hayford said.
“Saying he is rusty is too strong for him. He is not rusty. He did whatever he could as a goalkeeper.
“When you are standing in the poles and the ball is not coming, I don’t think you will be jumping and catching air.
“It is when the ball comes that he will catch it. So once you didn’t see him catching air, it doesn’t mean he is rusty.
“The question is too strong for him; I will not allow him to answer.”
The policemen at the venue of the press conference whisked Fatau away after the event to prevent any further confrontation.
