Stores Burnt At Nkawkaw



OVER TEN stores were gutted by fire at Nkawkaw, the capital of Kwahu West Municipality in the Eastern Region, Thursday morning.

Information DAILY GUIDE gathered at the scene indicated that a resident, at about 4:00am yesterday, went to burn toilet papers near a sawmill factory and the sawdust from the factory caught fire and spread to nearby shops.

Clothes, jewellery, electrical appliances, bicycles, refrigerators, sewing machines, television sets, cooking utensils, several quantities of wood and beverages were destroyed in the inferno.

Some of the shop owners who spoke to DAILY GUIDE said when it happened they looked on helplessly as the fire devoured their shops.

The Nkawkaw Deputy Fire Officer, ADO1 Felix Saka, speaking to DAILY GUIDE at the scene, said they received a distress call and rushed to the scene.

He added that with the support of other fire officers from Anyinam, Abirim and Aduamoah, they managed to extinguish the fire. He said they had launched investigations into the matter to ascertain the cause of the fire.

The area’s MP, Eric Darfour, the Municipal NADMO officer and other dignitaries in the municipality visited the scene to assess the situation.
