Military Rebuts Stories

The Ghana Armed Forces (GAF) has denied reports that the recent changes in the command of the institution had anything to do with the reasons put out by DAILY GUIDE.

In his statement, Col. E. Aggrey-Quashie, Director of the Armed Forces Public Relations Directorate, stated that the outgoing Chief of the Defence Staff (CDS) was not relieved of his position because of the recent dismissal of recruits at the Armed Forces Recruits Training Centre.

Noting that the report was in bad taste, he went on to point out that a previous one about mob justice meted out by some soldiers in Bolgatanga was incorrect, adding that it was fueled by disgruntled persons whose illegal activities were threatened by the effective patrols by soldiers in the area.

He added that the reporter who filed the story had the opportunity of being briefed by the Upper East Regional Minister who was satisfied by the work of the military.

Negative reports in the manner they are presented, he said, have the tendency of sowing seeds of discord among the ranks against the backdrop of DAILY GUIDE’s exclusive report about imminent changes at the top of the military, prediction which was made good the next day after the publication.
