Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of Pacific Football Ghana Limited, organizers of Asante Kotoko’s 80th Anniversary Cup match between the Ghanaian side and FK Jagodina, Oppong Eric, has revealed that the Serbian side arrived in Ghana without boots and Jerseys.
The Serbian side en route to Ghana for the game had their flight in Turkey delayed because of poor weather conditions, arriving in Ghana late as a result.
The side showed up on Saturday with only 11 players for the game which raised a lot of questions as to how the Serbians valued the game.
The side then hired some Ghanaian players to strengthen their side for the game which the Porcupine Warriors used as a history-making platform.
Adding to the numerous criticisms of the Reds, the CEO of the organizers has revealed that the Serbian side came to Ghana without boots and jerseys.
“Most parts of Istanbul had been crowded by snow. By the time they left from Belgrade to Istanbul five members of the squad had been dropped. Between Istanbul to Accra another seven players were dropped.”
“They got to Accra with a 13-man contingent, eleven footballers and two officials.”
We realized after their arrival at the airport that their luggage has also been left in Istanbul, no jerseys, no boots so after bringing the team from Accra to Kumasi we arranged kits for them,” he explained.
Even though the FK Jagodina goes into history as the first European side to have been annihilated by a Ghanaian side, the Porcupine Warriors have been heavily criticized for playing a side that had little respect for the Ghanaian giants.
