Ghana Football Association president, Kwesi Nyantakyi says 2015 has been a year with mixed fortunes for Ghana football.
Ghana missed out on winning the 2015 Africa Cup in Equatorial Guinea to Ivory Coast after taking a two-goal lead on penalty shoot-out.
And it is the highlight of the FA president’s sad moment of the year.
“2015 has been a very interesting year with mixed fortunes. At the beginning of year, we missed the African Cup of Nations [trophy] by inches when we lost to Cote d’Ivoire on penalty shoot-out,” the Wa All Stars bank-roller said at the end of year meet the press.
“We also couldn’t make it to the Olympic games.” He added.
The 2014/2015 First Capital Plus Bank Premier League season has been considered the most competitive of recent memory.
The fate of seven out of the sixteen premier league clubs was decided on the final match day of season, and Nyantakyi could not hide his excitement about the impression the league and the MTN FA Cup and Elite Cup left in his memory.
“Nevertheless our league went very well. It was one of the competitive seasons that we witnessed. Our FA Cup competition was equally exciting. The Elite Cup which was introduced this season was also very interesting though we are yet to complete it and hopefully the elite cup will be brought to a closure next month.”
Nyantakyi also took the opportunity to highlight other areas of work the FA did in 2015.
“We continued our training programmes for referees and coaches. We organised capacity sessions for our club administrators and just recently we did one at Alisa Hotel for the media, club licensing and marketing.
“Our women’s teams also did relatively well, the U-20 qualified for the World Cup in Papua New Guinea. We played qualifiers for the U-17, the FA continued to engage the media and our development programmes also came to place in Prampram. Our infrastructure in Prampram and other parts of the country are also progressing steadily
“So all in all, it was a very eventful year to, a very large extent, a very successful year. A year in which a very solid foundation was laid in so many aspects of our core businesses and we hope to continue on that into the next year.”
