The \u00a0management of Suhum Government\u00a0Hospital in the Eastern Region\u00a0has declared its intention to bring back\u00a0the cash-and-carry system due to failure\u00a0on the part of National Health Insurance\u00a0Authority (NHIA) to honour their claims.<\/strong><\/p>\n Dr Tetteh Ashong, medical superintendent\u00a0of the Suhum Government Hospital,\u00a0told DAILY GUIDE that the decision\u00a0had been taken because NHIA has failed\u00a0to pay claims submitted by health facilities\u00a0in the district for the past seven months,\u00a0running into over GH\u00a2800,000.<\/p>\n The last time they were paid was June\u00a0last year. Due to the increasing debt, suppliers\u00a0are refusing to provide the needed drugs\u00a0and equipment to the hospital, adding that\u00a0‘the situation is posing a threat to service\u00a0delivery.’<\/p>\n Dr Ashong, therefore, called on the\u00a0management of the NHIA to reimburse\u00a0them as soon as possible for the health\u00a0institutions to carry out their duties to\u00a0save lives.<\/p>\n He explained that 85 percent of the\u00a0hospital’s income is from the NHIS, and as\u00a0a result, the hospital is forced to rely on\u00a0other sources of income which are not regular.<\/p>\n Dumsor He averred that the load shedding had\u00a0collapsed three machines at the operating\u00a0theatre and two at the chemistry laboratory,\u00a0and he is appealing to the general public\u00a0to come to their aid and help them\u00a0financially to repair them.<\/p>\n Dr Ashong expressed his gratitude to\u00a0the Member of Parliament (MP) for the\u00a0area, Frederick Opare-Ansah, for contributing\u00a080 percent of the resources for\u00a0the construction of the administration and\u00a0the emergency blocks.<\/p>\n He advised the public to eat good\u00a0food, exercise regularly and go to the hospital\u00a0for early diagnoses than to be seeking\u00a0help from other places first before reporting\u00a0to the hospital when their conditions\u00a0get worse.<\/p>\n FROM Daniel Bampoe, Suhum\u00a0<\/p>\n

He mentioned that they had no alternative\u00a0but to withdraw from the scheme\u00a0until the NHIA pays the claims.<\/p>\n
Dr Ashong hinted the major challenge\u00a0facing the centre is the load shedding, and\u00a0the hospital had to spend GH\u00a225,372.07 on\u00a0fuel to run a generator for power to enable\u00a0the hospital staff to offer their services to\u00a0the people in the municipality and\u00a0beyond.<\/p>\n
