Korle-Bu Pharmacy Dept. blows GHC 900,000"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><!-- End of html generated by this->header() --><\/p>\n<p class=\"floatLeft\">General News of Thursday, 29 January 2015<\/p>\n<p class=\"floatRight\"><strong>Source: <\/strong>myjoyonline.com<\/p>\n<div class=\"article-left\">\n<p class=\"article-image\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"http:\/\/img.ghanamma.com\/uploads\/2015\/01\/1b3a53780472.jpg\" alt=\"Korlebu\" title=\"Korlebu\" width=\"250\" height=\"166\" \/><\/p>\n<\/div>\n<p>A forensic audit into the operations of the pharmacy department of the Korle-Bu Teaching Hospital in Accra has revealed that GHC946,574.29 has been misappropriated through bad procurement processes and collusion by suppliers.<\/p>\n<p>The forensic audit which was intercepted by Joy News covered the years 2010 to 2014.<\/p>\n<p>Year        Amount misappropriated<\/p>\n<p>2010        GHC245 193,<\/p>\n<p>2011        GHC275 287.85<\/p>\n<p>2012        GHC146 269.54<\/p>\n<p>2013        GHC208 504.43,<\/p>\n<p>2014        GHC71,319.14<\/p>\n<p>Ernest Chemists Ghana Ltd, a pharmaceutical company and supplier of drugs to the hospital has been asked to return GHC21,000 which the report found to have been illegally paid.<\/p>\n<p>The report made 44 recommendations and asked for a strict adherence to the Public Procurement Law.<\/p>\n<p>The Director of Pharmacy at the hospital in a response after checking the department&#8217;s books, acknowledged the findings of the audit as factual.<\/p>\n<p>The Pharmacy Manager and staff at the department have expressed surprise about the shortage in cash lodgments because cash was paid to the bank every day.<\/p>\n<p>The Pharmacy\u2019s checks also show that a number of computer printouts from their daily sales summary had been forged and the amount on it reduced drastically.<\/p>\n<p>The indicated that their department had done all it should and cannot be held liable for the misappropriation.
