Muntari-KP Boateng celebrate
According to reports in Italy, AC Milan have failed with an audacious proposal to bring Kevin-Prince Boateng back to Lombardy.
Gianluca Di Marzio reported that the Rossoneri have proposed a swap deal with Schalke 04 which would see Boateng return to Serie A, with his erstwhile Ghana teammate Sulley Muntari moving in the other direction.
However, the transfer expert notes that—for the time being—there is no movement on the proposed deal.
In principle, the proposition makes sense, with both players at odds with their current employers.
Relations between Boateng and the hierarchy at Schalke have completely broken down, and it’s hard to see any way back for the former Tottenham Hotspur man in Gelsenkirchen.
The 28-year-old was indefinitely suspended by the club’s sporting director Horst Heldt following an away defeat to FC Koln in the Bundesliga last term and has been heavily linked with a move away from the Veltins-Arena ever since.
There has been reported interest from Galatasaray and Major League Soccer, but with clubs unwilling to meet Schalke’s asking price for the player, and with Heldt refusing to liberate Boateng from his contract, the player has arrived at an impasse.
Muntari has endured a testing campaign at Milan, where he has reportedly made himself unavailable for selection after being told he is surplus to requirements.
The likes of Hull City and Everton have both been linked with the player, while MLS interest in the form of New York Red Bulls has also been noted.
However, as with Boateng, there has been no movement on his future to date, and it remains to be seen who will swoop to save Muntari from his tricky situation with Sinisa Mihajlovic’s side.
