Press Release: Hearts – Olympics derby very much on course

The Management of Accra Hearts of Oak have read with dismay, a story on ghanasoccernet suggesting that  we have made an official request for the postponement of our league game against Accra Great Olympics on Saturday, 13th June, 2015.

The story is apparently based on a radio interview in which our Corporate Affairs and Marketing Manager, Joe Addo deplored the relentless pressure on the Accra Stadium pitch and the difficulty of publicizing the derby because of the obvious spotlight on the Black Stars game.

‘We played a game on Saturday and then the Black Stars played on Monday before we played again on Wednesday.

‘Now we will be playing another big game against Olympics on Saturday before Ghana plays again on the same pitch.”

.But strangely enough, the writer refused to state that the story was based on an interview and maliciously created the impression that Hearts has made a formal request to have the match postponed.

Now let’s analyze quote that provided the pretext for this highly misleading story:

‘I think the PLB should have considered postponing our game against Olympics because we are unable to promote the game well because of the Black Stars match.’

There is a wide difference between calling on the PLB to postpone a match and thinking that they should have considered doing so.

In any case, requests for postponement are not made verbally on radio. They are rather done through a formal letter, and the writer should be aware of that. It is therefore mischievous and reckless for ghanasoccernet to have published such a story, knowing that Hearts have not written any letter to the PLB.

We wish to state emphatically therefore, that Hearts’ Management have never requested a postponement, let alone belatedly, of Saturday’s derby against Olympics.
