The timely intervention of the Odorkor police has saved the lives of two suspected car snatchers from being lynched by an angry mob at Odorkor, after they had attempted to snatch a taxi cab from its owner.
The suspects were Michael Lantey Lamptey a.k.a Accra boy, 19, and Derrick Asaase, a.k.a blood money, 22, all labourers.
The two, severely beaten, had bruises on their heads and parts of their body and are being kept in cells while seeking medical care at the police hospital.
Confirming the story to DAILY GUIDE, Chief Superintendent Abraham Acquaye , the Odorkor District Police Commander said the incident occurred on May 17, 2015 around 11:20pm.
The two suspects, Michael and Emmanuel went to entertain themselves at a bar in Osu and after closing they hired the taxi, Nissan Almera with registration number GL 164-13 to take them to Odorkor-Tipper area.
On reaching a spot called ‘Osei Kwame’, suspect Michael Lamptey ordered the driver to stop the car and surrender the car keys.
When the driver, now the complainant, refused to surrender the keys, Michael, who was then armed with a knife, stabbed him on the right hand.
The driver (name withheld) quickly raised an alarm and the people passing by rushed to his defense and arrested the two suspects.
The suspects were brutally beaten and nearly lynched but a police patrol team arrived at the scene and saved them.
While in custody, two other victims came to identify the suspects as those who robbed their vehicles (all taxis) at Kata International Hotel in March this year.
Police were yet to retrieve the other two cars.
The suspects are still in custody assisting in investigations.
‘Victims of robbery attack can also visit the station to identify suspects,’ Chief Superintendent Acquaye added.
