‘New’ Cedi Notes Reports False

Government is not planning to introduce any new cedi denominations as has been rumoured on Facebook and Whatsapp recently.

Holison Adiku, a graphic and web design student of IPMC, who designed the notes, told the media in Accra that the images ofย some three cediย denominationsย that circulated onย social mediaย were part of his school project.

It would be recalled that the Bank of Ghana (BoG) over the weekend cleared the air on the issue, urging the public to disregard the rumour.

Adiku said the art works formed part of hisย school project.

After completing his training in 2012, he currently works as aย professional photographer since he developed a passion for that.

He told myjoyonline.com on Tuesday that his designs were adjudged the best in his class.

Commenting on how the art works made their way onto theย social media, he said, ‘Last Thursday, I did a ‘Throw Back Thursday’, since people now know me as a photographer and no more a graphic designer and posted the works with the following hashtags: #Tbt #Ipmc #Project #work #2011.’

‘I even posted them on my business page,’ he told ghanabusinessnews.com.

The photos were widely shared onย Facebookย with suggestions that the government was printing new cedi notes in GHยข30, GHยข100 and GHยข200ย denominations.

Meanwhile, Esi Hammond, aย Publicย Relations officer of the Bank of Ghana has explained that the Central Bank has not printed any notes.

Adiku said he was initially scared he would be invited by the police over the designs, but a friend convinced him he had done nothing wrong.

He told myjoyonline.com it was regrettable that the designs of the imaginary cediย denominationsย took a political twist following their circulation on the social media platforms.
