Maku Condemn Attack On His Campaign Train, Blames APC Suporters

Labaran MakuThe governorship candidate of the All Progressive Grand Alliance (APGA) in Nasarawa State, Mr. Labaran Maku, has condemned in strong terms, the attack on his campaign convoy by thugs blaming the attack on his political opponents.

The attack, which took place in Marraraba, Karu Local Government Area while Maku was on tour of the state in continuation of his campaign ahead of the governorship elections on April 11, makes it the second time he has been attacked in such a manner. The first was five weeks ago at Kwandere

A statement by Zakari Edego, Director Publicity, Maku Campaign Organisation said: “APC thugs, who apparently must have staged an ambush, descended on the convoy under the Marraraba Overhead Pedestrian Bridge with stones, sticks and bottles”.

The statement further claimed that scores of people in the former information minister’s entourage as well as bystanders, were unfortunately injured in the attack while the windscreen of several vehicles were smashed.

Mr. Maku, who addressed the press immediately after the attack occurred, condemned what he termed “increasing intolerance and violence shown by APC supporters particularly in the Northern part of the country”.

He urged other political parties in the state to also call their supporters to order as peace should be the mantra of all political parties at all cost in this election.

However, in a swift reaction, a chieftain of the APC, Alhaji Abubakar Gada Mohammed, said as far as the APC is concerned, Maku is not an issue and he should rather face his problems without pointing fingers.

He wondered why the APGA flag bearer is seeking cheap sympathy and vain popularity on political gimmicks he (Maku) allegedly masterminds.

“Maku is nowhere close to the leading contenders for governorship seat in Nasarawa State and why has the PDP and APC, who are the main opponents, not attacked each other in the past?”
