Police Recruits Swindled

Five persons have beenĀ arrested in connection withĀ a fraudulent police recruitmentĀ exercise in the country. The five are currentlyĀ assisting with police investigationsĀ into the fraud.

Hundreds of peopleĀ issued with fake recruitmentĀ letters by someĀ fraudsters are stranded atĀ various police trainingĀ depots in the country.

Some of the victimsĀ who turned up at theĀ Police Training Depot inĀ Kumasi with their enlistmentĀ letters for trainingĀ were told no such trainingĀ was being offered.

Over 200 ‘new recruits’Ā sat on their luggage inĀ front of the police school atĀ Patase gnashing theirĀ teeth, a Joy FM report said.

The victims claimedĀ they received letters directingĀ them to report at theĀ training school on Saturday.

But authorities turnedĀ them away saying they didĀ not have any such communicationĀ of their coming forĀ training.

According to Joy FM’sĀ report, the authorities saidĀ the letters were fake.

Some of the victimsĀ said they had no money toĀ return to their respectiveĀ places. They came fromĀ Accra, the Eastern RegionĀ and the northern parts ofĀ the country.

A police officer, whoĀ spoke on condition ofĀ anonymity, said he nearlyĀ fell victim to the fraud.

He said someoneĀ claiming he could help hisĀ brother secure admissionĀ into the police trainingĀ school asked him forĀ GHĀ¢5,000 for that purpose.

He added that he nearlyĀ paid the money but a colleague’sĀ counsel savedĀ him.

It is obvious that manyĀ of the victims have beenĀ made to part with largeĀ sums of money
