Veteran Ghanaian coach EK Afranie
Veteran Ghanaian coach EK Afranie believes the country’s Under-20 stars have failed to break into the Black Stars due to their insatiable desire to move abroad.
Several Under-20 top performers have failed to make it into the national team despite their fine displays at their age level.
The country’s recent youth stars have struggled for national recognition with the 2015 World Youth squad including Yaw Yeboah, Joseph Attamah Larweh, Moses Odjer and Benjamin Tetteh amongst others failing to make the grade.
But former Black Stars coach Emmanuel Kwesi Afranie has attributed the situation to the exodus bandwagon.
“Some of these boys, when they finish the U-20, they rush, chase money and go to wrong teams. When you know you are going to a team where you will not have playing time, you don’t need to go,” he told Accra based Starr FM.
“If you look at the boys I sent to Argentina, they were the ones who helped Ghana qualify to the Germany 2006 World Cup, because they were all poached by top teams and were playing regularly,” he added.
