Momo KariFormer Hearts of Oak’s Moro Abubakar

There is a saying that ‘all that glitters in not gold’, and that by far is a statement with a lot of meaning. But for former Hearts of Oak’s Moro Abubakar, he has learnt that the hard way.

He left the shores of Ghana 9pm on the 11th of September 2014 with high hopes of playing professional soccer in Europe with his new Club Donji Srem and at the beginning, everything seemed fine.

He signed for three years, an action that meant that he will be walking away with a cool €100.000 at the end of the three years he will be playing for Donji Srem. Indeed soon after he arrived he was outdoored by the Club by both the then head coach and Club President at a colorful ceremony.

He became an instant hit with his new Club scoring a couple of goals in his first ten matches, something he did by playing regularly and starting every match.

Per his contract, Moro was supposed to receive an amount of €34.000.00 during the first year. €33.000.00 for the second and third year respectively.

However, with the change in the administration of the Club, things have not been that rosy for the former Hearts of Oak captain who is reported to be stranded in Serbia as he hasn’t been paid anything close to what his contract stipulates in the first year.

The player confirmed to ghanafootballnews.com a few months ago that he has received his first monthly salary, (€3400 i.e. a breakdown of the amount due him during his first year with Donji Srem), but since then, Club officials have been playing hide and seek with him, especially when it comes to issues concerning his salaries and monies owed him.

According a family source who mentioned this to ghanafootballnews.com, Moro believes that his agent responsible for the deal (name withheld), has connived with the Club into robbing him of his financial entitlements and has thus threatened to cancel the contract to return to Ghana.

Moro, according our sources, is torn between staying on to fight for his money or abandoning everything to return to Ghana as he is said to be facing hardship in terms of finances.

“The last time I spoke to him, he was very troubled and told me that they embarked on a training tour, one that the players were asked to foot the bill of the air fare or risk being left behind. He said most of the players agreed and thus he had to also to avoid any issues.”

“All this, including his feeding coupled with other things came out of the two or so months salary he received sometime last year”, the source mentioned exclusively to ghanafootballnews.com.

“Just last month, he was told by the Club directors that his salary was not what he believed to be €3400, and that it was only $400.00. This piece of news really got to the player who has sworn to take the Club on.”

However, ghanafootballnews.com can confidently confirm that, the player in question, Moro Abubakar, does not even have a copy of the contract he append his signature to, and thus his hands are tied, not knowing which steps to take next.

He is presently at the mercy of the agent who brokered the deal as he is said to have a copy of the signed contract. Ghanafootballnews.com has managed to get a copy of the unsigned contract between Moro Abubakar and Serbian Club Donji Srem, but will make it available in subsequent editions to this particular story.

All attempts to get the player to confirm or deny the story proved futile as he has changed his phone number and family sources are also not willing to give out the new one claiming that the player says he doesn’t want to be disturbed.

From the look of things, this saga between the one time ‘sweetheart’ of Accra Hearts of Oak fans and Donji Srem, will not end anytime soon.
