President of the Ghana Football Association (GFA) Kwesi Nyantekyi has argued that the South African League is not the best in Africa.

Speaking at a two-day seminar on marketing, media, and club licensing on Monday, December 21, 2015 at the Alisa Hotel in Accra, Ghana Mr. Nyantekyi said,” in Africa, the richest league is the South African Premier League, but the fact that it is the most resourceful does not mean that it is the best in terms of quality of football in Africa.”

“I am sure that when it comes to the quality of football, Ghana ranks amongst the best in Africa and yet we are one of the poorest in terms of resource. This may be linked to the size of our economy and attraction to businessmen,” he said.

Mr. Kwesi Nyantekyi also advised that clubs in Ghana must raise their revenue base so that they can pay their players very well in other to stop them from travelling to some unknown destinations to play football.

“We cannot stop a player from going to places like Vietnam and Thailand when the offer comes because if you did the whole village; the chiefs and elders will besiege you office the following day and plead with you why you should allow the player to go”

“In those Countries, clubs can afford to pay players $5,000.00 and above a month whiles clubs in Ghana cannot afford to pay players $1,000.00 a month,” he added.
