Asamoah Gyan is uncertain whether Wayne Rooney will move to the Chinese top-flight league after the Manchester United attacker was linked with a move to join the Ghanaian striker at Shanghai SIPG.

Former England manager Sven-Goran Eriksson, who is Gyan’s coach in the Chinese Super League, stated last month that he would love Manchester United star Wayne Rooney to join him at the club.

A newspaper publication in England last month revealed that the Manchester United captain Rooney is being courted by several clubs in China as they are keen on offering him a lucrative contract.

Eriksson revealed that he would love to bring Rooney to join Gyan at the Chinese the side.

However, the Ghanaian striker says he is unaware if the English attacker’s would love to play in the Chinese top-flight..

“He [Rooney] is a great player, and he will obviously take the league to a new level.” Gyan said.

“He is a big player but i don’t really know if he will join this club or play in China.

“All i have heard are rumours and i cannot say anything really about that but if Rooney comes, It will be great.”

Shanghai SIPG manager Eriksson also said last month that Rooney arrival in the China top-flight would be great for the Asian nation.

“Football is becoming huge here and they have very big ambitions for the Chinese Super League,” Eriksson said.

“We already have famous players, like Robinho, Asamoah Gyan and Demba Ba, and they have brought something special.

“But of course Rooney is at another level. He is top, top, top — in the same category as Lionel Messi and Cristiano Ronaldo.

“Everybody in China knows the superstar players like him. Rooney would take this league to another level, I have no doubt about that.”
