Kwesi Appiah
Kenyan international midfielder Anthony Akumu has credited Ghanaian coach Kwesi Appiah for shaping his career that helped him to seal a bumper switch to Zambian giants Zesco United.
Akumu joined the Zambian Super League champions on Wednesday on a two-year deal from Sudanese side Al Khartoum – the team Appiah coaches.
Zesco swooped to sign the Kenya international though he had six months remaining on his contract with Al Khartoum.
The Zambian giants opted to buy out the remaining six months in Akumu’s contract which shows how highly he has been rated by Zesco.
Akumu has been signed to boost Zesco’s campaign in the Champions League but the midfielder has expressed his gratitude to Appiah for reviving his career for him to gain prominence that drew the attention of the Zambians.
“The club management has spoken with me and they have emphasised the fact that they need to perform well in the Caf Champions League next year. That is a tough challenge, and I just hope that I will settle in fast and perform well,” said the former Gor Mahia midfielder.
“I thank everybody at Al Khartoum especially the fans and coach Kwesi Appiah who gave me the opportunity to grow to this level.”
Appiah, the coach who led the Ghana national team to the 2014 World Cup, was signed by Al Khartoum after he parted company with the Black Stars.
