President John Mahama’s brother, Ibrahim, has decried political polarisation in Ghana saying it is destroying the country and stunting development.

“There is too much unnecessary politicking…our problem is the politics. We can do without it,” he told Okay FM on Wednesday December 16, 2015.

“Our talk is what is regressing this country,” Mr Mahama, who owns construction firm Engineers & Planners (E&P), said.

In his view, politics is holding Ghana’s development back.

“There are very good people in NPP, but if they ever lend a hand and say: ‘Let me help NDC’, they’ll disqualify them, dismiss them, so, everybody is closing their eyes, but quietly everybody will say: ‘Ibrahim you know we support you but because of our party, we can’t talk.”

According to him, Ghana has retrogressed because of incessant politicisation of everything.

Citing himself as an example, Mr Mahama decried the manner in which critics in the opposition New Patriotic Party (NPP) hounded him after his company philanthropically dredged the silted Odaw River at the Kwame Nkrumah Circle to allow free flow of water, as part of measures towards reducing flood disasters in that enclave.

He said Ghana is blessed. “When you travel to Sierra Leone or Liberia then you’ll see Ghana as Heaven. Even Nigeria with all their money can’t match Ghana,” he said.
