Ghanaian midfielder Alhassan Wakaso scores to propel Rio Ave in Portuguese Cup

Ghanaian midfielder Alhassan Wakaso scored the equaliser for Rio Ave as they fought from a goal down to win against Vitoria Setubal in the Portuguese Cup on Tuesday night.

The 23-year-old pulled parity for Rio after Korea Hyun-Jun Suk had raced the hosts into a 12th minute lead at the Estadio do Bonfim.

Alhassan, a younger brother of Ghana international Wakaso Mubarak, applied an impressive technique to finish brilliantly four minutes into the second-half as Rio recovered from the earlier goals and win the game on penalties.

The box-to-box midfielder sat out his side’s 3-1 victory over Arouca due to accumulation of yellow cards but returned crucially to propel his side through to the next round of the Cup competition.

Alhassan has been in a fine shape for Rio in the Portuguese top-flight, playing in 11 games and providing 2 assists to goals.
