Ex-Ghana striker Augustine Arhinful has cast serious doubt about Andre Ayew’s chances of winning the 2015 African Footballer of the Year.
The Swansea star is among three players shortlisted for the top individual award on the continent.
The Ghana international faces stiff competition from Manchester City and Ivory Coast star Yaya Toure and Pierre Emerick Aubameyang of Borussia Dortmund and Gabon.
Toure is hugely touted as the overwhelming favourite to win the accolade after winning the 2015 Africa Cup of Nations with Cote D’voire in February this year.
Ex-Ghana striker Augustine Arhinful does not believe Andre Ayew can scoop the top award.
“Over the last calendar year he ( Yaya Toure) has won the Nations Cup, Dede has played well and scored goals but Ghana lost ultimately on penalties to Ivory Coast,” he told Accra-based Joy FM
“Aubameyang is doing so well in club side but on the national level, their team is not that okay so you would want to say Yaya Toure is a bit ahead of Dede and Aubameyang.
“If he (Yaya Toure) wins, fine you can’t complain because he has done well for both club and country.”
