Political scientist Dr. Amoako Baah has said former flagbearer of the People’s National Convention (PNC) Dr. Hassan Ayariga is an appendage to the governing National Democratic Congress (NDC).
According to him, Mr Ayariga did not help the PNC when he was their flagbearer.
“He became an appendage to the NDC and that is not good. When you do that people discredit you or you discredit yourself and people see it,” he told Ekow Mensah-Shalders on the Executive Breakfast Show Monday, December 14, 2015, on Class 91.3FM.
“Mr Ayariga made it appear like the PNC was his,” he added.
On whether it was good for the PNC to merge with another party after its successful congress over the weekend that saw Dr. Edward Mahama emerge as flagbearer for the fifth time, Dr. Amoako Baah said it depended on which party the PNC intended to merge with.
He said for a small party, “if you are part of a bigger coalition and you win elections, it is better than not having anything, but there is a price to pay”.
According to him, smaller parties like the PNC, after coalition mergers with bigger parties, if not careful, “will never come back.”
“Once you get swallowed up,” it becomes a problem, he added.
