Rooney Offered 75m To Join Gyan

Wayne Rooney is being offered an eye-watering £75million deal to be reunited with Sven Goran Eriksson in China.

The Chinese Super League want the Manchester United striker to become their poster boy and are ready to give the 30-year-old a three-year contract worth up to £25m per season.

Rooney’s likely destination — if he decided to leave Old Trafford — would be Shanghai SIPG, where Ghana captain Asamoah Gyan plies his trade.

The financial package would include an image rights agreement that would see Rooney cash in if he can help increase the CSL’s global profile.

The CSL, who are also interested in Chelsea skipper John Terry, want Rooney to join as soon as possible, although they are willing to wait.

Rooney still has three years to run on his existing United deal, but his advisors are already thinking about his future.

Sportsmail understands the MLS in America are also keeping tabs on Rooney’s future as they look to secure another global superstar after landing Steven Gerrard and Frank Lampard in recent times.

Indeed, the American lifestyle is likely to suit Rooney and his family – but the MLS would not be willing to offer the sort of money that the Chinese have up their sleeve.

Rooney remains central to Manchester United’s and England’s plans, but the summer could bring a landscape change in the 30-year-old’s career path. He has publicly stated he will make a decision over his international future after Euro 2016.

Likewise, with United keen on bolstering their attacking options, Rooney could find his role in the starting XI under threat ahead of next season.

Shanghai already boast former Sunderland striker Asamoah Gyan and ex-Sweden international Tobias Hysen – who also played for Sunderland.
