London,Dec. 11, (GNA/dpa) – Tyson Fury has been stripped of his IBF world heavyweight title because he will not defend the belt against a mandatory challenger.
The Briton, who keeps his WBO, WBA and IBO belts, is instead set for a rematch with Wladimir Klitschko, having surprisingly beaten the Ukrainian in a title bout last month.
“It’s true he’s been stripped of his IBF belt,” the IBF’s championships chairman, Lindsey Tucker, told the BBC. “Our challenger was Vyacheslav Glazkov but instead Fury’s gone and signed a rematch clause with Wladimir Klitschko.”
Fury is separately being investigated by police over a possible hate crime after he made controversial remarks about homosexuals, British media reported.
