CAF Champion League: Ashgold paired with Algerian giant M.O Bejaia

Ashanti Gold have been handed a tough customer in Algerian side M.O Bejaia in the CAF Champions League preliminary stage stage.

The Miners will host the North African side at the Obuasi Len Clay Sports Stadium, subject to the approval of CAF and emplane to Algeria for the 2nd leg.

The first leg of the preliminary stage is scheduled for 12-14 February, with th return leg taking place in a fortnight’s time..

Ashgold will take on the winner of the Club Africain of Tunisia and Tanda of Ivory Coast encounter if they manage to jump the hurdle at the preliminary stage

The Miners who are bent on making an impact in the competition with the target of progressing to the money zone to win back Ghana’s lost slots in Africa Clubs Champions Cup.

‘We have set a target of reaching the CAF Champions League money zone and build on that. We want to put up a very good show to win back the four slots Ghana have lost,’ Kudjoe Fianoo said..

Ashgold and Raja Casablanca were the first clubs to reach the final of the CAF Champions League in 1997 under its new format, but the Obuasi based side lost through penalty shootout and have since struggled to make a mark in the competition.
