Three people believed to be members of the People’s National Convention (PNC) have been arrested in connection with a shooting incident that occurred during a National Executive Committee (NEC) meeting of the party ahead of Saturday’s Congress.

Although the Police are yet to brief the media, Citi News‘ Upper West Regional Correspondent Latif Mahama says the three were arrested after gunshots were fired during a clash between supporters of the party’s two presidential hopefuls, Hassan Ayariga and Dr. Edward Mahama.

He noted however that it is unclear what triggered the gunshots.

He says  police and military personnel have brought the situation under control.

Lattif Mahama reported that the gun has been seized from an individual who gave his name as Jacob, a supposed bodyguard of Dr. Edward Mahama.

Hassan Ayariga was earlier accused of engaging in vote buying after he was said to have openly distributed some cash, motocycles and mobile phones to some of the delegates in a bid to be re-elected as the party’s flagbearer for the 2016 election.

Meanwhile the congress is currently underway as delegates have converged in Wa to elect executives and a Presidential candidate to lead the party.

A total of 1,536 delegates are expected to take part in the voting.
