Weightlifting coach for coaching course in Kenya

Accra, Dec 9, GNA – Mr. Abubakari Taylor, deputy coach of the national weightlifting team, will participate in a two-week coaching course, in Kenya.

The course is under the auspices of the International Weightlifting Federation (IWF) and the Weightlifting Federation of Africa (WFA) with IWF certified instructor.

Professor Kyle Pierce, who also doubles as the technical director of Ghana Weightlifting Federation (GWF) will be one of the lecturers at the course dubbed ‘Coaches Education Training Course’.

Mr. Taylor, will be sponsored by the GWF for the course, which will see participants from 16 countries.

Mr. Ben Nunoo-Mensah, President of GWF, said the course will equip the coach with the necessary skills to beef up the technical team of Ghana Weightlifting.

Mr Nunoo-Mensah noted that after the training, Coach Abubakar Taylor will be the first Ghanaian weightlifting coach to earn the IWF certified Class 1 coaches’ licence.

He said after the course the coach will be attached to the University of Ghana Sports Directorate to supervise weightlifting.

Coach Taylor will also be in charge of the youth development program of GWF in which the president explained that the program is targeted at the youth below the age of 13years.
