Communications Director of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Nana Akomea has vowed that the opposition NPP would fiercely protest against the increase in tariff which is to take effect from the 14th December 2015 if the government fails to reverse it.

“..It is terribly unfair to ask ordinary Ghanaians to be paying for government’s failure, and there has to be a protest to this effect, because if things are left to go the way they are, after another 6 months these huge increments will become useless,” Nana Akomea said in his interview with Joy FM on Tuesday.

The NPP government blames the Mahama- led administration for causing this mess labeling them as wicked and insensitive for this increment on the side of government, especially at this month of the year and the state of the nation.

The Public Affairs Director of the Public Utility Regulatory Commission (PURC), Nana Yaa Jantuah says she is surprised that dissatisfied utility consumers are attacking government following the tariff increment, and believes that anybody or party aggrieved by the increment, should put in a formal petition for redress and this lasts for 14 days after the tariff increment is done.

She added the PURC is an independent body not influenced by political considerations in taking its decisions, so Ghanaians should stop blaming the government especially Prez Mahama for the tariff increment.

The Labour unions led by the TUC are said to hold meetings to take a united position on the increases.
