The Mamprobi District Police Command has begun investigations into what led to Tuesday’s alleged shooting incident at an anti-Akufo-Addo press conference in the Ablekuma South constituency.

District Commander, ASP George Lysander Asare said the culprits behind the riots will be pursued and arrested.

The planned news conference meant to have been addressed by Mr Joshua Attoh Quarshie, a founder-member of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) got botched when some constituency executives of the party violently interrupted the event.

The angry executives said Mr Quarshie needed permission from them first, since they were the custodians of the NPP in the constituency.

They vandalised the venue of the press conference before it could even start, according to Class News reporter Parker Wilson who said gunshots were fired amidst the disturbances.

Mr Quarshie later told Parker Wilson in an interview that all the troubles in the NPP were being caused by the party’s flagbearer Nana Akufo-Addo.

“Nana Addo is the cause of the whole thing,” Mr Quarshie alleged, adding: “I came here with a mind of peace, not to fight.…”

He, however, added that since the constituency executives violently interrupted his planned press conference, he was going to “organise” himself and return to the place to address the media.

Meanwhile, the constituency organiser of the party, Collins Kofi Asante, has said Mr Quarshie is seeking the downfall of Mr Akufo-Addo and the party.

“Do you know the harm Attoh Quarshie has caused to this constituency? Do you know the havoc he has caused in this Chorkor community?” he asked journalists.

“He is a founding member of the party but has turned himself [into] a monster in the party,” he added.
