The Constituency Organizer of the opposition New Patriotic Party (NPP) in the Ablekuma South Constituency of the Greater Accra Region, has boldly defended the actions of the youth in the area, who disrupted a planned press conference by a stalwart of the party, Joseph Attoh Quarshie.

Some young members of the NPP, led by the Organizer, Collins Kofi Asante, stormed the venue, where the programme was to be held, destroyed chairs, canopies and stopped the press conference  from commencing saying Mr. Quarshie had not informed the constituency executives about the programme.

Speaking to Citi News, Kofi Asante insisted that the actions of the young men were justified because what they did was in the supreme interest of the NPP.

“The youth see this Afoko issue as a threat to the party and they know that Attoh Quarshie is more on the side of. So what they did, they did it to defend the party for 2016. They believed that the agenda of Afoko is not going to bring the party into power,” he argued.

Kofi Asante explained that the constituency executives are the custodians of the party in the area and that “we will be held responsible for anything that happens in the constituency in the name of the party.”

He added that “the man [Mr. Quarshie] organised the press conference without our knowledge” hence their decision to stop the press conference.
