Tension has engulfed Chorkor in the Ablekuma South constituency of the Greater Accra region following the invasion of a planned press conference by some supporters of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) in the area.

The youth obstructed the media briefing scheduled to be addressed by a staunch NPP member Ato Quashie over fears he was going to attack the party’s flagbearer Nana Akufo-Addo over the suspension of the party’s national chairman Paul Afoko.

The youth led by constituency secretary Henry Bat-Plange appeared at the press conference and destroyed chairs and other facilities installed for the purposes of the press conference.

According to Accra-based Joy FM, gunshots were heard at the venue.

The NPP has been hit with a protracted internal rivalry that has led to the suspension of their national chairperson. The general secretary of the party Kwabena Agyepong is also tipped to be sanctioned in the coming days.
