Press conference: Asamoah Gyan bemoans media tirade over rape saga

Asamoah Gyan’s lawyer Kissi Agyebeng on Tuesday morning held a press conference to address the issue concerning the Black Stars captain and Sarah Kwablah.

Ms Kwablah filled a case against the Shanghai SIPG forward accusing the 30-year-old Ghana international of rape.

The unfolding consequences of that issue has seen lawyer Maurice Ampaw accuse the footballer of being a ‘sodomizer’, an interview that has spread across the country.

Speaking at the press conference for Asamoah Gyan who is currently out of the country, lawyer Kissi Agyebeng said the accusations from lawyer Maurice Ampaw and Sarah Kwablah were the ‘most ludicrous media tirade’ against someone in the history of Ghana.

Asamoah Gyan’s lawyer was still baffled by the ongoing verbal abuse of the player and his manager Samuel Anim Addo.

Further explaining what happened, lawyer Kissi Agyabeng who described his fair share of insults as ‘occupational’ hazard said:

‘The young woman lodged a complaint in  June 2015 of rape under natural canal knowledge against Asamoah Gyan at the Domestic Violence and Victims Support Unit of the Ghana Police Service at the ministries, Accra.

‘The docket was transferred to the headquarters of the criminal investigation department in Accra.

‘Asamoha Gyan fully cooperated with the police during the investigation and the investigation has come to an end.

‘At the end of the investigation the police forwarded the docket to the Attorney General for advice.

“And on Wednesday, 2 December 2015, we were called back to the headquarters of the Criminal Investigation Department, Accra and informed that after a careful study of the docket, the Attorney General has concluded that the rape and unnatural canal allegations made by Sarah Kwablah against Asamoah Gyan are totally baseless and that the docket should be closed.

‘In plain language, Asamoah Gyan has been cleared of all of Sarah Kwablah’s allegations of rape and sodomy.

‘Ordinarily, we would not have bothered to address the media. However lives are involved and reputations have been affected. Right must be put right and wrong must be put in it’s place.’
