Germany, Dec.5, (GNA/dpa) – Schalke ended a five-game winless run in the Bundesliga with a richly deserved 3-1 victory at home to Hanover Friday to go fourth in the table.

Johannes Geis blasted the opening goal of the game for Schalke from the penalty spot in the 51st minute after Marcelo had hauled down Klaas-Jan Huntelaar. Dutch striker Huntelaar scored himself in 73 and though Allan Saint-Maximin pulled one back with nine minutes remaining, Franco di Santo immediately restored the two-goal advantage.

Schalke had dominated proceedings in the first half but Huntelaar and Leroy Sane spurned various chances. Hanover offered nothing going forward and could have no complaints about the loss.

The win lifts Schalke into the Champions League play-off place while Hanover remain 14th, four points above the bottom three. League leaders Bayern Munich are away to Borussia Moenchengladbach Saturday.
