Former Berekum Chelsea skipper Abdul Basit is set to return to the club after years of unsuccessful career experience outside the shores of Ghana, can reveal.

The talented offensive midfielder is returning into the Ghana Premier League after a difficult career in the Gulf with Kuwaiti side Sulaibikhat.

The Muharraq were confident Basit will bolster their ranks for next year’s AFC Champions League but the former Chelsea midfielder had to terminate his contract to return into the Ghanaian top flight.

Basit captained Berekum Chelsea to win the Ghana Premier League in 2011 and led them to reach the Group stage of the CAF Champions League the following year.

As part of his achievement with the Berekum-based side, Basit was the captain of the side when they qualified into the top flight in 2008.

Sources close to the club have disclosed to that Basit will sign his two-year contract with the club by Monday 6th December.

Basit’s return makes him the third player to have joined the Berekum-based side after unsuccessful stints outside Ghana.

Former Ghana U17 striker Saddick Adams and former AshGold midfielder Prince Bobby signed a two-year contract each with the club on Friday.
