Goalkeeper Fatau Dauda
Ghana goalkeeper Fatau Dauda has said his career could have turned out differently had he been an outfield player, adding that he perhaps would have been lining up for English side Chelsea.
The 30-year-old shot-stopper has spent all of his career in his homeland but for an unsuccessful one-year spell in South Africa.
Dauda was Ghana’s No.1 at the 2013 African Cup of Nations in South Africa, before usurping Adam Kwarasey for the starting spot at the 2014 Fifa World Cup following the Black Stars’ opening day defeat to the USA.
“People should analyse goalkeepers very well,” Dauda told Hot FM .
“How many times do you see goalkeepers being changed in a game? After the World Cup, how many goalkeepers were signed?
“Even outfield players, who didn’t kick a ball in the competition, managed to secure good deals after the tournament.
“I would have been a Chelsea player if I was an outfield player.”
Dauda joined Orlando Pirates in 2013 but having struggled for playing time, he moved to Chippa United whom he parted ways with after just two matches over financial disagreements.
Back in Ghana, he led Ashanti Gold to the 2014-15 Ghana Premier League title and has indicated readiness to extend his contract with the ambition of playing in the 2016 Caf Champions League.
