Barcelona enjoy 6 -1 cup romp; Real Madrid face expulsion

Madrid, Dec 3, (GNA/dpa) – Holders Barcelona cruised into the fifth round of the Spanish cup with a 6-1 home destruction Wednesday of regional third-division side Villanovense, after a 0-0 draw in the first leg.

Barca are the first team to reach the fifth round, because their tie was brought forward due to their participation in the upcoming Club World Cup.

The other second legs will be played December 16.
Barca coach Luis Enrique fielded a reserve-packed side and was rewarded with a hat-trick from youngster Sandro plus a brace from Munir, after veteran Dani Alves had given Barca an early lead with a powerful drive.

Rampant Barca have scored 20 goals in their last four matches in all competitions, conceding just two in the process.

However, Luis Enrique refused to accept that Barca had reached their peak. “We still have to improve in several ways. We cannot say that we have reached our zenith,” he said.

“You can never say that in football, you have to always try to continue raising your standards – and this is what we are trying to do.”

Later Wednesday, Real Madrid enjoyed a 3-1 win at Cadiz, another third-division team, with an opener from Denis Cheryshev followed by a brace from Isco.

However, Cheryshev should not have been playing as he was under suspension due to having picked up three yellow cards in the cup last season while on loan at Villarreal.

Real will almost certainly now be expelled from the competition, which will be another bitter blow for embattled coach Rafa Benitez.
