Coach Hayford, who was also adjudged the Best Coach of the Premier League at the recent Premier League Board (PLB) awards, signed the deal some two weeks ago.

The contract of the coach, who joined the ‘Soccer Miners’ from Tarkwa-based Medeama FC, expired at the end of last season.

Confirming the deal in an interview with the Graphic Sports yesterday, Mr Kudjoe Fianoo, CEO of Ashgold, disclosed that the decision to renew the coach’s contract was in recognition of the diligence and enterprise he displayed in the discharge of his duties since he took over the technical bench of the club two years ago, culminating in his winning the Premier League with the club.

“Our decision to renew Coach Hayford’s contract was in appreciation of the work he has done so far with the club and we believe that given what he has done so far, he will take the club very far.

“We are also confident that he is the right coach to lead the club to Africa,” he added.

Coach Hayford had earlier told the Graphic Sports that based on his first experience with the Obuasi side, he was always willing to stay in the mining town of Obuasi if given the opportunity again.

“I must say my stay with Ashgold was a wonderful experience and I have not made my mind to quit.

“Even if I quit where will I go?. If it is the conditions of service it is among the best if not the best because when it comes to meeting their obligation there is no difficulty or a headache.

“The relationship between me and my employers is professional and there is mutual respect,” he asserted.

He took the opportunity to dismiss the assertion that he had always performed in the first round of the league, asking what will I say of my achievement with Ashgold?

“I have always known that these assertions were not backed by my true records of achievements from Power FC through Kotoko to Ashgold.”
