Majority Leader in Parliament, Alban Bagbin is blaming the opposition New Patriotic Party (NPP) for the delay of the power barge.

He alleged that, the opposition party in its bid to use the power crisis against the Mahama-led government sent a delegation to Turkey to convince the authorities not to bring the barge to Ghana.

The veteran politician made these wild allegations after the vice presidential candidate of the NPP, Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia questioned the essence of renting a barge for ten years when government could have easily bought it.

The much anticipated Karpower barge arrived in the country last week after months of postponement. The 225MW emergency power barge docked at the Tema Shipping Harbour is part of government intervention to resolve the almost four year energy crisis facing the nation.

Though Power Minister has stated the arrival of the power ship will not end the load shedding popularly known as dumsor, the Majority leader maintained that the NPP should be blamed for its delay.

According to him, its needless vile propaganda cost the nation a lot since government had to send another delegation to Turkey to shoot down the NPP claim.

“Mahamudu Bawumia is aware that a team from their party even went to Turkey to convince the authorities not to send to power barge so government had to send a team to Turkey to tell them what they were told was untrue,” he alleged.

Alban Bagbin who is also the Member of Parliament for Nadowli-Kaleo constituency stated that the members of the opposition party should be the last people to complain about dumsor.

“If there is anybody to blame for the delay of the power barge it is the NPP for their backbiting against the government” he added.
