Arjen Robben has hailed Pep Guardiola as ‘maybe the best’ tactical manager in world football and called for him to remain at Bayern Munich.

The former Barcelona boss is wanted by Manchester City, while sources said the Spaniard would prefer to join their rivals Manchester United when he does move to the Premier League.

Guardiola is due to hold talks with the Bundesliga champions later this month as he considers whether to extend his contract beyond the summer of 2016.

And Robben, who has thrived under Guardiola’s tutelage, wants his manager to stay at the Allianz Arena and lead Bayern to more success.

He said: ‘We have one of the best coaches in the world. As many of our players have said, we all want him to stay. It is a lot of fun working with him.

‘Tactically he is maybe the best. And I don’t say that just because he is our coach at the moment.’

Robben has been linked with a move away from Germany too, but the former Chelsea and Real Madrid winger insists he has no plans to leave the club he joined in 2009.

He added: ‘I am happy in Munich, my family is happy in Munich. My contract runs until 2017. You can’t look far forward in football, but everything is fine at the moment. I hope to continue this way.

‘I have never thought about a transfer. I have always felt comfortable in Munich – even after we lost the Champions League final in 2012.’
