Pro-NDC groups, Friends of Atta Mills and Professor Mills Movement have petitioned President Mahama to name Vice President Kwesi Bekoe Amissah-Arthur as his running mate for the 2016 Elections.
In a two-page letter dated October 21, 2015 and signed by the Acting National Secretary, Gabriel Agah, the two groups maintained it would be politically incorrect for the National Democratic Congress to change Mr. Amissah-Arthur.
The groups say the Vice President, who has since 2012 been marketed both home and abroad, has distinguished himself as a man capable for that position.
According to the groups, contributions of Mr. Kwesi Bekoe Amissah-Arthur to governance and the election fortunes of President Mahama cannot be overlooked.
“His partnership with you has brought us all these achievements that the NDC can boast of and his leadership style resembles you as a humble gentleman,” the petition stated.
Both Friends of Atta Mills and Prof Mills Movement say grassroots NDC supporters who were consulted by the groups wish to see the Vice President retained.
“As a campaign team, we have gone round the country and have sought the views of Ghanaians and party supporters and faithful and they wish to see his Excellency Amissah-Arthur as the running mate for the President,” the petition stated.
