The Ghana Revenue Authority has donated a cheque for GH¢20,000 to the Renal and Cardiothoracic Centers of the Korle Bu Teaching Hospital.
This according to the authority is to assist these centers in meeting some of their financial obligations. Both centers received 10 Thousand Ghana Cedis each. Speaking with Joy News a presentation ceremony, Commissioner General George Blankson said the gesture forms part of the authority’s Corporate Social Responsibility.
Mr. Blankson stated that the authority deems it important to acknowledge the tremendous role the hospital has over the years been playing in the lives of not only the about 7,000 staff of the authority but the entire citizenry.
Mr. Blankson indicated that there have been numerous occasions when staff of the authority had been in need of emergency attention at the two centers in particular, where they were attended to without any insistence for on-the-spot payments but allowed to regularize the payments later.
This according the Commissioner General has saved many lives within the authority thereby boosting staff morale hence, the need for the show of appreciation.
Chief Executive Officer of the hospital Dr. Gilbert Buckle who received the cheques on behalf of the hospital thanked the GRA for the gesture saying the monies will be used prudently in saving the lives of all patients who visit the facility.
He added that their excitement about the donation “is not about the money but for a lot of us in the health sector just having someone say ‘thank you’ is a huge acknowledgement for us.
We are mindful of the fact of the position and the roles we play in people’s lives and it is a humbling place to be. It is so humbling when you realize that by what you do or do not do, somebody’s life is either saved or not saved. So when people come over here and just say ‘thank you’ it means a lot to us” he added.
