Police impound 80 boxes of ammunition; arrest 3

The Police in Accra have impounded 80 boxes of ammunition that were being transported Accra to Techiman in the Bono Ahafo Region.

The ammunition was kept in a luggage compartment of an OA Vehicle with registration number AW 6758- 12 which was headed to Techiman.

According to the Accra Regional Police Commander, DCOP Christian Tetteh Yuhono, the ammunition was impounded at the Doblo Barrier on the Accra-Nsawam highway upon police intelligence.

Three people have so far been arrested Joy News’ Naa Dedei Tettey reported the police commander as saying at a press conference, Wednesday.

The three are Kojo Billy 47, the driver of the bus, Abraham Yorke 23, the conductor and the suspected owner of the ammunition who is only referred to as Alhaji.

The driver and his mate early on denied knowing the content of the boxes but when they were probed further by the police they gave in by mentioning one Alhaji as the owner of the ammunition.

The Alhaji was also subsequently arrested. It is not clear yet what the ammunitions were going to be used for. The police have begun investigating the matter.

The vehicle has been impounded and the exhibits retained by the police.
